First, I would like to highly recomend the movie the Conscientious Object to all of my loved ones- it’s such a crazy amazing story. It’s a documentary about the first Conscientious Objector to ever recieve the congressional medal of honor.  The story itself is unbelievable- the movie is a little slow at some parts but it’s beyond worth it in the end.  Even though the story is about a conscientious objector,  it’s not like a pacifist movie… it’s really about sticking to your beliefes no matter what. It leaves you feeling inspired and warm and fuzzy inside.  If you have Netflix you can watch it instantly online.

Second, I would like to recomend Son of Rambow- which is super cute and touching coming of age/buddy flick.  You’ll laugh, you’ll cry….etc. It’s in select theaters now. Someone should really pay me to do this.

In other news- one graduation done (Shaddia’s highschool graduation) 2 more to go!! Plus lots of tearful summer goodbyes :-(

Brenda, there was a power outage in Bend yesterday in downtown/Old Mill area because a tree blew over on power line. It’s been windy here. Yes, strange June. I really hope your power doesn’t go out.

Sarah, thanks for the movie review.

    School’s out!
Sarah—isn’t today your last day of school? I hope it’s a good one for you.

Molli graduated last week, and Jessica graduates Saturday. Big congrats to these hard-working ladies!

And…I hear Tonya is loving her hard work in Wyoming. Tonya it will be fun to hear a woman’s perspective of the job site, after hearing the guys talk about it.

on a sad not.. The boy scout camp hit by that tornado..4 dead.. 40 injured.. I imagine thier training helped them keep it together. And I imagine they were proactive in helping each other out.

  8. iowa…….like half flooded half tornado ravaged. summer has not been kind to the midwest so far

  9. lol….. I know it’s wrong, but mom’s comment about the boyscouts really cracked me up. LOL… I can’t explain it’s just…. like because they’re boyscouts we have to mention that they were diligent little campers before they died… lol…. sorry….can’t stop laughing……

I’m going to blame this completely inappropriate comment on the fact that I’ve been doing grades all day. I’m not responsible for my actions.

Midwest weather.. I am waiting to hear from the great prophets of our day.. to tell us just exaclty what God is punishing the midwest for.

God seemed to be more outspoken about katrina I guess.

Sarah! Thats awfull! They were diligent little campers and thier training came in handy.

  11. the sun is blocked out by smoke and sarahs car is ashen grey……..

Shelby & Sarah, we’ve been following the news on the Santa Cruz fire—too close for comfort. Stay safe and keep us posted.

  13. ehhhhhh its far away……

It looks like everyone is very busy and has abandoned the blog. Come back! Come back!

It will be great to see everyone in person in a few weeks. It’s getting close to the wedding!

On the home front—just working, trying to clear out projects. And trying to train Scouty to be socialable so he doesn’t drive everyone bananas.
We’re hoping to get outside in the sunshine this weekend. We’ve had such great weather this week. I know the Cali Preschers have too. Every day Steve and I look at the Aptos weather forecast and Steve says how much Shelby and Sarah must be suffering. lol
Then we look at the Kansas weather and those guys have thunderstorms!

    Hope everyone enjoys their weekend!

  17. sarahs Mom said

It would be so awful to live in that kind of heat all summer long. I have a friend in AZ and most of the summer they dont go out..

I love that you and Shebly sat out in the rain! what did rufus do ?

  18. rufus just hung out he likes the rain …plus he had been so hot that he was happy for the cool off……..today seems like its going to be back to a nice regular temp

Sarah, are you adjusting to the non-academic life? Well, actually I did hear from a very good source that you have been reading a lot! That’s my dream vacation—to go to a nice place by the water and read for days on end!

I’m so excited that you guys are coming in soon! It will be so great to see everyone. Only 9 days until the wedding! Woohoooo!

  20. Cindy said

Shelby it’s getting really close to your birthday! You still have one year of “20s” left.

Did you know Kevin Pickens is in the San Fran area fighting fires? Please pray for his safety and that all goes well with him getting home early for the wedding.

  21. sarahs Mom said

Cindy our first born are approaching the last year of their 20’s. Time does go by at a rate that is hard to fathom. Its so slow when your pregnant and waiting for them to arrive.. and too fast when they are growing up. Ok .. I refuse to start singing “Oh how the years go by” I will cry and end up with a sinus infection! And I am saving that for the wedding. LOL.

  22. My 20’s are almost over…….ive always like the sound of 30’s its sort of a nice broken in vintagy 20s? lol i bet kevin is at that brisbane fire its huuuuuuge and its freaking out fire shy san franciscans…….for good reason

    Happy Birthday Shelby!!!!!!!

Brenda, so true about the years flying by after they are teenagers!!!! Sigh… I was talking to a young mom the other day who has four young boys—and she was saying she can’t wait until they’re older–and I told her those years will fly way faster than she wants them too. I sounded so OLD when I was talking. But then, according to SHelby, “Mom and Dad have been old ever since I’ve known them.” lol

Kevin called Jessica and he WILL be able to leave for home on July 1st from the fire. Phew!
Not sure which fire he is at–but yes, probably the Brisbane fire. Yeah, the San Frans have a history, don’t they! Praying for quick fire containment. I’m sure it’s very scary!

It’s supposed to get up to 96 here tomorrow.

HAPPY HAPPY BIRTHDAY dear Shelby!! Chris and I tried to call you for the last hour.. Blast those phone lines!!!!

Cindy we are old.. till we are spending time with people older then us LOL.. Then your told.. your so young still . You’re just a baby! lol. Awww perspective…

I think once we hit the 70’s or 80’s being young or old will depend on the company we keep. Middle age has its perks :) .

  25. Cindy said

Is the birthday boy hiding? We can’t reach him on the phone either, Brenda. Hey SHelby…. call us when you get a chance. HOpe you had a very happy birthday day!

  26. JESSSICAAA said

  27. i had a nice birthday…thanks…….i think i was in a movie when dad called….how was the chinese food? i dunno why i cant recieve calls from bellevue? weird?

  28. sarahs Mom said

Gosh Dang it..on the phone issue.. I am finding the pre recorded female voice telling me all lines are busy a bit condescending. Sadly, I am starting to really resent her.

  29. lol……i was telling my mom about it and she mentioned that she remembers getting that message when we lived near seattle

  30. Cindy said

Yes, Brenda I got the busy circuit message often when I dialed out long distance when we were near Seattle.

Wow–only 5 days until the wedding. Jessica has not displayed even one second of Bridezilla-ism. Schyler was sooooo excited when I talked to him on the phone this morning.

Safe traveling to everyone who is hitting the road and the sky over the next few days!

  31. we are currently …….having last minute meetings with students/dog washing/packing….to leave in the morning for weddingpalooza 2008

  32. sarahs Mom said

The thing about the busy message is I didnt have this problem till the cell phone change. I can get everyone else. So wierd.

Safe travels Sarah and Shebly. I am excited to see everyon and to attend the wedding!.
