In the news…

June 2, 2008

That’s so sad about the kid in Redmond!!  I’m glad I was too young to remember what the paper said about Tony- I would probably still be mad about it, lol.    It’s so disguisting how the media uses stuff like that.  The other side of the coin is, of course, all the kids that are getting gunned down in Watsonville and you never hear a thing about it. I only hear it from their friends and people who were there at the shooting…. not a word from the media. I guess I can kind of understand it- I don’t even mention most of the shootings anymore.

I feel really horrible because I took a personal day and skipped school today and Stephanie showed up talking about how yesterday her friend was shot twice (stomach and head) right after she had left him, and she went back and found him on the ground in the park.  Linda put her on the phone with me, and we talked about it for a while and she seemed alright but then her, “Okay, bye…. I love you….you’ll REALLY be here tomorrow? For SURE?” made me feel sooooo guilty for not being there

I think I should start a group home this summer so I can just keep them all with me.

Oh Sar.. :( . Wouldnt you know it.. the vey day you decide to splurge a little and take a day off..

The very reason you dont allow yourself to do so happens!

The situation with Tony was on Z21 news.. All day of course.. I am still ticked about the whole thing.. At the VERY least they should get the facts straight.

The shootings and violence are so outrages in places like Watsonville.. Life and the value of it, is so escewed by poverty and fear and desperation.. Its hard to combat such things. But it is possible with time and consistancy.. I really do beleive that.

SO when doesn Shelby come home?

  2. Shelby is on his way home right now.

The truth is that there has been at least one shooting every weekend for the last couple months… Monday’s are always hard days in that respect- I just wasn’t thinking when I decided to call in.

Thats so crazy!! … Not Shelby going home LOL

    The shootings..

  4. speaking of shootings…. rumor around the school on Friday was that “It’s all going down this weekend….” Which we take to mean all the shootings and the north/south tensions that have been building are going to erupt. There has to be some real plan in place, because we have a couple of kids whose parents got wind of the plans and took their kids out of town… they’ll be back monday afternoon. I made my Edward swear that he would not step outside his front door all weekend. We’ll see if he can hold that up. The rest of my (current) kids should be alright… I don’t have too many serious gangsters right now. Of course if things really explode that probably won’t matter. Keep them in your prayers.

Sarah, I have been and will continue to pray for your kids (and you!). This sounds pretty serious. Keep us posted as to what has transpired. You be safe!

Recently we have watched parts of the documentary on the history of the gangs on the history channel. Man, the seriousness of their organization really is mind-boggling. The things they hold sacred, the sad things they believe—that shape their lives—just leaves us in tears.

  7. So far, I know of 2 stabbings over the weekend but I haven’t heard word of any shootings so it sounds like things thankfully fizzled. My afternoon kids aren’t here yet so I haven’t heard how they were effected.

Cindy, you’re so right about the organization of the gangs and the “creeds” involved. The mindset is so ingrained in these kids at such a young age it’s really hard to get them to think of things in different terms. I try and celebrate little victories like when they admit they would in fact prefer to not die or go to jail— huge step.

YES!.. this can work! These types of programs have good track records in so many areas of life.

If I lived near by, I would do this in a heartbeat!
